Mr. Guido Moretti. Engineer, was professor-researcher in Urban Planning at the Department of Architecture and Territorial Planning, University of Bologna, Italy, and is a freelancer with a professional studio in Bologna, Via Orefici 4, No 2446A position in the register of Engineers of the Province of Bologna.
On the research front he deals with issues related to the built environment with particular attention to the lost knowledge of architecture, on which he has published numerous works that, like monographic volumes, amount to more than thirty.
Mr. Moretti is part of the Faculty Master's Degree in Eco-sustainable Architecture, of the Scientific Committee of the Inter-University Center on Urban Centers, of the International Course for Advanced Landscape and of the Scientific Board of the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies on Islam at the University of Bologna.
On environmental issues he has carried out consultancy assignments concerning environmental issues for the Stelvio National Park, the Adamello Brenta Natural Park, the Maritime Alps Natural Park, the State Forestry Service of the Province of Trento, the Community of the Giudicarie Valleys, the Protected Areas Service of the Autonomous Province of Trento.
His project to renovate the Premessa Baita in Paneveggio (TN) was selected and presented at the Italian Pavilion of the Venice Biennale Architecture 2018.
He spent some time in Algiers and worked in various countries in the Middle East and Africa with urban planning and architecture projects, including a Mosque in Tripoli, Libya. He was a member of the team that drafted the Casbah Restructuring Plan of Algiers and his project "La Casa de la Mujer", center built in adobe for the Union of Saharawi Women in Rabouni in the Algerian Sahara, received the nomination for the Aga Khan Award for Architecture 2008 - 2010.
He has conducted studies and research on raw earth technologies and passive cooling of buildings in arid areas, collected in the volumes that make up the desert "trilogy": The House of Hatra, Deserts and Segni, Abitare il deserto, plus the more recent Travel Notebooks dedicated to the Saharawi population, the Pentapolis of the M'Zab and the Sahara.
It carries out international cooperation activities with the NGO CISP, the International Committee for the Development of Peoples and the Onlus Now Peace - Peace Now.
He was a member of the judging committees of national and international architectural competitions and President of the Commission for Architectural Quality and Landscape of the Municipality of Bologna. He is a member of the Comité de Parrainage de la Fondation Déserts du Monde based in Algiers.

The activity of industrial design is not secondary, for which it has received international recognition with two signature products - Marposs E4 and Marposs E35 - presented at the Expo Tsukuba '85 and at the Expo '86 Vancouver, and a product - Viro safe RAM 7 - with nomination to the Compasso d'Oro '86.
Together with his son Francesco, architect, he carries out professional and research work at his studio in Bologna, working on architectural and urban planning, with works published in specialized journals and other popular science journals.
Artistic Activity
He began his oil painting career as a young student of the Bolognese painter Guido Bugli. He subsequently pursued figurative expression, focusing on landscapes, often featuring human figures, in desert and mountainous areas, using both acrylic painting and life drawing.
At the same time, he developed a large-scale travel notebook project: twelve published volumes, each containing 200 to 300 pencil drawings created following his stays in cities, Alpine valleys, and desert areas, and related research.
The core of his work is based on the dialogue between painting, travel memories, and drawn archives, with a particular focus on the lived landscape and its narrative dimension.
Exhibitions
The solo exhibition of her works on Strada Maggiore in Bologna, at the Starch - Knoll and Tecno showroom in November 2022, featured actress Kasia Smutniak as the host of the event for the presentation of "Taccuino sull'Upper Mustang - Ultimo Tibet," a tribute to the Solar School of Ghami, which she created to promote Tibetan traditions in those remote places.
The major exhibition "L'Arduo Cimento - Abitare la montagna, abitare il deserto" (The Arduous Challenge - Inhabiting the Mountain, Inhabiting the Desert) took place between July and September 2025 in the restored Palazzo Migazzi in Cogolo, Val di Sole. The exhibition featured 85 drawings and paintings, illustrating the knowledge of the peoples of the great heat and the great cold to overcome the harsh conditions of those habitats.
The exhibition "Minimalia - Small Alpine Flora on the Edge of the Path" is scheduled for summer 2026 in Val di Sole. It features 36 original colored pencil drawings, accompanied by literary quotations from Dante to Pascoli and Leopardi, and informative botanical notes.
